Benidorm Half 2025 celebrates a trio of records

Ben Connor and Lily Partridge, in the 21K, and Alondra Yairet Negrón, in the 10K, set new course records in Benidorm. Harry Johnson won the men’s 10K

Puerto Rican athlete Negrón also broke the national women’s record for the distance

The 2025 Benidorm Half enjoyed a day of celebration with a trio of record-breaking performances across three of its four categories. New all-time course records were set in the men’s and women’s Half Marathon, as well as in the women’s 10K. The event was already shaping up to be historic, having registered a record-breaking 9,132 participants—a milestone highly praised by the organiser, Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas.

The honours board for the 2025 Benidorm Half, decided this Saturday across the 21K and 10K distances, featured the following winners: Ben Connor claimed victory in the 21K with a time of 1:03:51, setting a new course record, while Lily Partridge took the women’s title in 1:12:07, also a record. In the 10K race, Harry Johnson stopped the clock at 30:38, while Alondra Yairet Negrón Teixidor won the women’s race in 33:13, breaking both the event’s women’s record and the Puerto Rican national record for the distance.

In the Half Marathon, Britain’s Ben Connor sealed the men’s title with 1:03:51, breaking the previous record held by Luis Agustín Escriche (1:07:23 in 2024). Alejandro González (Serrano Atletismo) finished second in 1:04:21, while Latvian athlete Dmitrijs Serjogins (C.A. La Sansi) placed third in 1:05:11.

In the women’s 21K, the previous record belonged to Laura Méndez (Olympian in the Tokyo 2020 Marathon), who ran 1:16:35 in 2024. That mark was comfortably surpassed in 2025 by Lily Partridge, whose 1:12:07 represented a significant improvement. Geles Gimeno secured second place with 1:19:45, while María José de Toro (Atletismo C.P. La Roda) completed the podium in 1:20:47.

In the 10K, Harry Johnson (Salford Harriers) won the men’s race in 30:38; last year he had also raced in Benidorm, finishing second with 30:34. In 2025, Javier Mirón (Team New Balance) claimed the second step of the podium with 31:11, while Pablo Otero (Atletismo Narón) placed third in 31:18.

In the women’s category, victory went to Alondra Yairet Negrón Teixidor (Joma-Sport), who ran 33:13, breaking both the Puerto Rican national record and the Benidorm event record (previously 34:00 by María Fuentes in 2024). The defending champion, María Fuentes Olcina, crossed the line second in 33:55, improving her own performance from the previous edition. Mónica Pascual (CA Benidorm) finished third with 34:48.

“I didn’t expect to break this record here. I came to run the best race possible before heading to a training camp in Kenya to prepare to break the national record in Valencia. I’m thrilled to have managed it here as well as to win the race. I’m shocked. I’ll be back next year,” said the 10K champion.

The course is officially certified for both distances, and the event features on the national calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA). Both the 21K (21,097 metres) and the 10K (10,000 metres) start on Avenida Comunidad Valenciana (corner with Calle Bélgica) and finish at Plaza de SS.MM. los Reyes de España nº 1, Benidorm (Town Hall).

The Benidorm Half is organised by Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas and in 2025 is supported by the Benidorm City Council and Visit Benidorm. Private sponsors include Meliá Benidorm, Olympikus, Sprinter, Coca-Cola, and Sala Marina. More information is available at the event’s official website.

Growth of the Benidorm Half

The 2025 Benidorm Half was already presented as a record-breaking edition in terms of registered runners: from 6,500 in 2024, which was already its best historical figure, to 9,132 this year. Another standout milestone, difficult to match in the national scene: 44.4% of participants came from a single foreign country— the United Kingdom. Organised by Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas, the race is now the event with the highest number of entries in the province of Alicante. Out of the total number of runners (9,132), 4,616 (50.5%) were international participants. Remarkably, 4,043 runners were British.

The event’s growth goes even further, with internationalisation rising year after year. The 2025 Benidorm Half brought together participants from 37 countries. Spain, with 4,516 runners (49.5%), and the United Kingdom, with 4,043, were the most represented. Other notable nationalities included: Ireland (108), Norway (74), Belgium (72), the Netherlands (72), Poland (42), Italy (38), Germany (23), France (22), and Sweden (18).

Among Spanish participants, a closer look shows that of the 4,516 registered, 1,934 were from the province of Alicante (42% of Spanish runners), while the remaining 2,582 came from 46 provinces. The top five were: Alicante, Valencia (704), Madrid (463), Albacete (424), and Murcia (184).

The details behind the numbers

The data becomes even more significant when considering the event’s impact as a generator of tourism and economic activity. Of the 9,132 participants, 7,198 travelled to Benidorm from other parts of Spain or from abroad, ensuring a substantial tourism-related return for the city. According to the economic impact study conducted by the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences of the University of Valencia for the 2024 edition, the average number of companions per runner was 2.6. Applying this to the 7,198 runners who travelled from outside Alicante in 2025, they were joined by 18,714.8 companions, adding up to a total of 25,912.8 visitors.

In terms of distance distribution, 49.2% ran the Half Marathon and 50.8% the 10K. By gender, participation was 58.7% men and 41.3% women. In the 10K, the split was almost even: 50.3% men and 49.7% women. In the 21K, the proportions were 67.8% men and 32.2% women.

Benidorm Half 2025 Unveils a Record-Breaking Edition in Runner Numbers and International Growth

The city will host, on Saturday 22 November in an evening session, the event featuring Half Marathon and 10K races, following a registration tally of 9,132 participants, 44.4% of whom will arrive from the United Kingdom

Benidorm Half 2025 presented what can already be highlighted as a record-breaking edition this Thursday at the Hotel Meliá Benidorm. This running event, which will take place over the Half Marathon and 10K distances on Saturday 22 November in an evening-night format, has already surpassed its own registration record: from 6,500 runners in 2024—already its best figure to date—to 9,132 this year. Additionally, it has achieved a milestone that will be hard for other races in Spain to match: 44.4% of all participants will travel from the same foreign country — the United Kingdom.

The presentation event was attended by the Benidorm City Council’s Sports Councillor, Javier Jordá; the race director, Fernando Brotons; Olympic medallist and Spanish athletics legend Fermín Cacho; last year’s 10K winner, María Fuentes; the director of Olympikus Spain, Paula Morales; Coca-Cola’s Head of Communication, Institutional Relations and Sustainability in Alicante, Ramón Alonso; Visit Benidorm’s running promotion manager, Laura García; the CEO of Grupo Aurrerá, Ina García; and as host, the director of Hotel Meliá Benidorm, Alberto Varela.

“This weekend Benidorm throws itself into sport and running once again. We stand beside the organisers year after year, and it is important to highlight the spectacular nature, the growth, and the record-breaking 9,132 registered runners. This is the race, the great event, and there is a strong synergy with Benidorm. We welcome all participants with the very best wishes for their goals,” said Sports Councillor Javier Jordá.

“Since taking on the organisation of the Benidorm Half, we have achieved key objectives for Tour-Sport, such as promoting sport, boosting internationalisation, generating great experiences for participants and driving sports tourism. Even with everything that 2020 and the pandemic meant, this event has grown year after year, increasing its runner numbers each edition. Last year, at this same event, we announced a record of 6,500 registrations, but this year we are going even further with 9,132, with a remarkable 50.5% coming from outside Spain,” explained race director Fernando Brotons.

Organised by Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas, the race becomes the largest in Alicante province by number of registered runners. Breaking the 9,000-participant barrier, the final count for the Benidorm Half 2025 stands at 9,132 runners, of whom 4,616 (50.5%) will be international participants. As a milestone, 4,043 runners will be British, representing 44.4% of all registered athletes.

The growth of the race does not stop there. It also continues to excel in internationalisation, with runners from 37 countries represented. Spain leads with 4,516 runners (49.5%), followed by the United Kingdom with 4,043. Other notable delegations include Ireland (108), Norway (74), Belgium (72), the Netherlands (72), Poland (42), Italy (38), Germany (23), France (22), and Sweden (18).

Focusing on the Spanish contingent, of the 4,516 registered domestic runners, 1,934 will come from Alicante province (42% of all Spaniards), while the remaining 2,582 will travel from 46 other provinces. The top five are: Alicante, Valencia (704), Madrid (463), Albacete (424) and Murcia (184).

“We are a brand with 50 years of history landing in Europe to support recreational runners as they grow in their running experience,” said Olympikus Spain director Paula Morales.

The figures become even more significant when considering the event’s impact on tourism and economic activity in the city. Of the 9,132 participants, 7,198 runners will travel to Benidorm from other parts of Spain and abroad, guaranteeing a strong tourism return. According to an economic impact study carried out by the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences of the University of Valencia for the 2024 edition, the average number of companions per runner was 2.6. Applying this figure to the 7,198 runners arriving from outside Alicante in 2025, an estimated 18,714.8 companions are expected, totalling 25,912.8 visitors.

Regarding race distribution, 49.2% of participants will run the Half Marathon and 50.8% the 10K. By gender, 58.7% will be men and 41.3% women. In the 10K, the balance is almost even: 50.3% men and 49.7% women. In the Half Marathon, the proportions will be 67.8% men and 32.2% women.

The race course is certified for both distances and the event is included on the national calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA). The 21K (21,097 metres) and 10K (10,000 metres) will start from Avenida Comunidad Valenciana (corner with Calle Bélgica) and finish at Plaza de SS.MM. los Reyes de España nº 1 (Benidorm City Council). The organisation continuously applies improvements to ensure the best operational flow and coexistence between the city’s daily life and an event of this scale. The runner experience includes a complete medical service, volunteer participation and entertainment points such as those provided by Sprinter.

Benidorm Half 2025: Record-breaking edition surpasses 9,000 entries and becomes Alicante province’s leading road race

The event, featuring both the Half Marathon (21K) and 10K distances, registers an increase of more than 2,500 runners compared to last year and becomes the race with the largest field in the region

The Benidorm Half 2025 is set to smash its all-time participation record, with more than 9,000 runners confirmed for the night race taking place on Saturday, 22 November. This represents an increase of over 2,500 participants compared to the 2024 edition, which had already marked a historic high. With these figures, the Benidorm Half becomes the largest running event in the province of Alicante.

Beyond participation growth, the event stands out for its strong tourism impact and contribution to the city’s economy. Of the total registered runners, 2,000 are from the province of Alicante, while 7,000 will travel from across Spain and a range of international locations, generating significant tourism revenue for Benidorm. Overall, 48.7% of participants are Spanish and 51.3% are international.

“We are extremely pleased with the growth the race has experienced year after year. It is the result of putting the runner at the centre and ensuring they always enjoy an exceptional experience,” explains Fernando Brotons, Race Director and CEO of Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas, the company responsible for organising the Benidorm Half.

According to an economic impact study conducted by the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at the University of Valencia following the 2024 edition, runners were accompanied by an average of 2.6 guests. Without doubt, the tourism pillar has been more than achieved,” adds Brotons.

In terms of distance selection, 49.2% of participants will run the Half Marathon, and 50.8% the 10K. Regarding gender distribution, 58.7% of runners are men and 41.3% women. The 10K shows a particularly balanced field, with 50.3% men and 49.7% women, while the Half Marathon is made up of 67.8% men and 32.2% women.

Both race circuits are officially certified, and the event is included in the national calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA). The 21K (21,097 metres) and 10K (10,000 metres) will start on Avenida Comunidad Valenciana (corner with Calle Bélgica) and finish in Plaza de SS.MM. Los Reyes de España nº1 (Benidorm Town Hall). As in the past two editions, the Benidorm Half — organised by Tour-Sport Promociones Deportivas — will welcome recreational runners while maintaining its commitment to attracting elite athletes.
